The licence, which contains the Dalkey Island exploration prospect, was awarded by the Irish Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
Providence said this licence is a successor authorisation to the previous licence option 08/2.
The company has been granted the licence for a period of up to six years and the licence is split into two three-year phases.
Providence operates the licence with a 50% interest and its partner in the licence is Star Energy.
