The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) action completes half of the six purchases that PPL will conduct to obtain default service electricity supply for 2010.
The average generation supply price from this round of bids, representing 850MW of generation, is $108.80 per MWh for residential customers and $108.76 per MWh for small commercial and industrial customers.
PPL noted that, if the average prices for the remaining purchases match the prices approved so far, the bill for its residential customers using 1,000kWh per month will increase in 2010 by 34.4%, or about $36.65.
PPL said that monthly bills for small business customers will increase between 23.8% and 42.8%. The estimated increases are reportedly lower than those reported after the second solicitation in October 2007 because customers’ total rates will include the effect of PPL’s 2008 distribution rate changes and a court-ordered rate adjustment in 2007.
