The proposed site for the new substation is off Banana Bridge road near Brigalow and the Kogan Creek power station. Preliminary construction activities for the substation are expected to commence in late 2010. Community consultation for the new 275kV powerline between the substation and Kingaroy is expected to commence in early 2010.

Simon Bartlett, chief operating officer of Powerlink, said: “This project includes the proposed Western Downs Substation, to be completed by the summer of 2012/13, and a future 275kV powerline that will connect the new substation to the Halys substation near Kingaroy.

Designation is a planning process in which Powerlink seeks the approval of a state government minister to identify land for community infrastructure (such as a new substation or transmission line).

Powerlink is a state government corporation that owns, operates and maintains high voltage electricity transmission network in Queensland.
