The new powerline, between the Townsville South substation and a new substation at Townsville East, is part of Powerlink Queensland’s A$120 million investment in the region.
Gordon Jardine, CEO of Powerlink, said that the new powerline and substation would underpin the major development occurring in the Townsville area.
Mr Jardine said: The Townsville population continues to grow strongly, with the annual average growth rate between 2001 and 2026 in the new Townsville City projected to be 1.7%. The new Townsville South to Townsville East project and the other transmission developments in the area will help underpin the essential facilities and services to support this growth.
