Power Grid Corporation of India (PowerGrid) has awarded a turnkey Fixed Series Compensation (FSC) contract worth about €10m to Alstom T&D India.

Under the contract, Alstom will improve power quality on the 400kV Wardha – Aurangabad Transmission Network, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Alstom’s scope of work include design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing & commissioning of the FSC system.

In addition, the company will provide capacitors, spark gaps, control and instrumentation systems, and an insulated platform.

The latest project, which will be executed by Alstom T&D India and Alstom Grid Finland, is expected to be commissioned in 2014.

Commenting on the project, Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said it is the first FSC contract won by Alstom Grid in India.

"To prevent future blackouts on the Indian network, Power Grid & CEA have taken special initiatives to introduce compensation technology in the transmission grid," Basu added.

"Alstom T&D India is a leader in delivering highly reliable and advanced transmission solutions and is well poised to make significant contributions to the Indian transmission grid in this emerging segment."
