Entergy spokeswoman Carol Wightman was quoted by Boston Globe as saying that three diesel generators were providing backup power to the facility’s safety systems.
"There’s no worker or public safety concern. We’re troubleshooting the cause," Wightman added.
Wightman noted that site personnel were determining exactly what went wrong, but the latest outage may be related to weather.
Power returned to the Pilgrim generating station on Sunday morning, according to Entergy, but went back out later by the afternoon, and before the plant was returned to service.
The latest shut down is the nuclear power plant’s third in 2013, with first two outages was due to equipment issues rather than an offsite power loss.
