Having a capacity of 800MW and heat production of 530Gcal/h, the Seoul CCPP Units 1 and 2 will remove Seoul thermal power plant’s existing 380,000kW Units 4 and 5 from operation.
The Units 1, 2 and 3 of the plant were demolished by 1982.
Claimed to be the world’s first CCPP built under the center of the city, the units are expected to supply electricity to 800,000 households and district heating to 100,000 households across Seoul, South Korea.
With power generation facilities placed under the ground, the area will become a combined cultural complex for local residents, and will feature an eco-park, sports and performance facilities, as well as a library.
An unnamed POSCO E&C member said the company needs to take around 40,000 25-ton truckloads of earth out of the site in order to excavate an area of 194m in width and 164m in length with an average depth of 25m.
”Moreover, we need to install perfect barrier walls as the plants will be located near the Han River. Thus we will concentrate our efforts on the civil engineering work," the member added.
The construction is scheduled to complete in September 2016.
