Reuters reported that while plans were previously afloat to create an integrated national energy major, the last time such an alliance was suggested was when it was proposed that Lotos merge with PKN Orlen.

PGNiG is an integrated player in the Polish gas market and also has upstream crude oil operations. Lotos focuses on petroleum refining and only has a small upstream presence, according to Reuters.

Mr Zuk reportedly stated that it will be a good idea to conjure a strategic alliance between PGNiG and Lotos and that both the firms could match synergies on their exploration operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
