The Solo2 communicating charge point will have the ability to deliver energy efficiency in response to local supply and demand, bridging the technology-gap to move towards smart grids.

POD Point technical director Steve Large remarked that the charging point can delivery energy efficiency by tapping into spare energy from buildings and channeling it into charging parked cars.

"The communicating charge point is a smart energy hub that can be programmed to initiate the charging cycle when the carbon mix of the grid is at its lowest, or synchronize charging cycles according to the availability of locally generated electricity," added Large.

Solo2 contains a GPRS system to facilitate two way communications between the charge point and a smart-phone or web-based account, allowing remote control of the charging cycle.This enables the user to remotely set time for charging.

The charge point is expected to be launched this week at the Low Carbon Vehicle event to be held at Millbrook Proving Ground in the UK. The product will be available online and through distribution channels in the UK and Europe
