CONSTRUCTION OF the Poço Marruá water supply dam in Brazil's Piauí state is expected to be completed next year, the state's development company Comdepi has announced.

The 293Mm3 capacity dam will supply the municipalities of Patos do Piauí, Simões, Caridade, Curral Novo and Jacobina in the state’s semi-arid region. Construction of the dam began in 2001.
Compedi also announced the completion of the the Algodões II dam in May 2004. Construction of the 247Mm3 capacity dam also began in 2001 and is being financed by state funds and the São Francisco and Parnaíba river valleys’ development company Codevasf.
