Plutonic Power Corp has received environmental assessment certification for two of its hydro schemes in development - the 123MW East Toba and 73MW Montrose Creek projects in British Columbia.
The Canadian power company said the green assessment on the schemes had been given by the province’s Environmental Assessment Office. The state concluded that the run-of-river projects should cause no significant environmental, social or health impacts on the local area.
Plutonic added that the federal assessment of the projects is expected shortly. The provincial office and federal agencies had prepared a joint assessment for decision makers at each level.
The company recently signed Impact and Benefits Agreements (IBAs) with native people to help prepare for executing the schemes, and to share the benefits including employment. Construction is planned to begin mid-year.
Recently, Plutonic added to its growing portfolio of planned hydro schemes in British Columbia with proposed schemes at Dalgleish Creek, Jimmie Creek and Upper Toba River. The company now has a list 25 proposed hydro schemes, including East Toba and Montrose Creek.
