Vietnam is planning to privatise all the nation’s electricity distribution companies by 2007 in a bid to raise finances for new power developments.

“The state will retain its monopoly in power transmission and regulation of the national power network, while other areas such as power generation and distribution network are awaiting private investors,” deputy industry minister Do Huu Hao told journalists recently.

The distribution firm privatisation occurred in March with the sale of the Khanh Hoa Electricity Co.
