The power plant has an output capacity of nearly 850,000 kilowatts, which is equivalent to a nuclear reactor, reports yomiuri.co.jp.
The companies are planning to sell most of the increased output from the Kawasaki plant to new electricity retailers for large-lot customers to enable them provide more electricity to clients and wider choices.
Tokyo Gas and JX Nippon are of the view that due to TEPCO’s inability to increase its output for the time being as it has no prospects of reactivating its idled nuclear reactors will create enough demand for their planned output increase.
An additional generator has been planned to be installed at the premises of the natural gas thermal power plant, which is located in the waterfront area of the city’s Kawasaki Ward and already has two generators.
The new generator will employ a combined cycle power generation system using gas and steam turbines, the website said.
Majority of the increased output will be sold to Ennet Corp, while remainder will be provided to the electricity exchange.
