The wood fired power plant at the Dyemill developers said project plan will not be preceded as the persistent opposition from a "section of the community" led them to walk away, Herald & Times Group reported.
The moves mark the end of a two-year fight since Northern Energy Development (NEDL) submitted their application first to North Ayrshire Council for a biomass plant.
Huge controversy has been attracted for the proposed plant and more than 700 objections have been made to the two applications.
Although, controversially Arran Community Council backed the proposal, Arran Energy Action Group also argued the case against the plans.
