With a total nominal productivity of eight MW, the plant can cover the annual energy necessities of more than 5,200 private households, which means that about 12,000 fewer tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants from conventional power stations will enter the atmosphere each year; the plants thus make a major role to environmental protection.

By using turbines with a hub height of 125 metres, Calau is one of the first wind farms in Germany to make optimum use of the wind potential of this site. Its successful completion serves yet again to show that we are effectively combining climate protection and good economic sense, according to Bernd Paulsen, member of the board of directors responsible for project development and implementation. He explained that the height of the wind turbine is crucial for making the best possible use of the potential of the location, as the wind strength increases with an increase in altitude. Moreover, Calau is a good example of the fact that there are still suitable areas for making use of wind energy in Germany.

By completing this, the second wind farm of 2009, we succeeded in commissioning a nominal output of 18 MW this year. In the coming months additional wind farms are to be completed and sold to several parties, says Martin Billhardt, chairman of the board of directors of Plambeck, looking forward to additional projects currently under construction.
