Voith, in collaboration with the National University of La Plata (UNLP), is to undertake a pioneering study focused on the uprating and modernisation of existing large hydropower plants in Argentina.

In an MOU signed by Voith President and CEO, Dr. Hubert Lienhard, and Prof. Marcos Actis, Dean of the University of La Plata, Voith has agreed to share its knowledge and expertise with UNLP, who will conduct an uprate study in the hydroelectric system currently existing in Argentina. The results of the study will identify the potential of these uprates for the country’s government.

Uprate initiatives in the hydropower sector are targeted to benefit Argentina, as the country relies on this energy source for  around 30% of its power generation. Argentina is the third-largest economy in Latin America and also the third- largest energy consumer in the region.

In a statement, Voith said the partnership project will contribute to the country’s development: first, through the increase in the energy output and second, through the development of local professional expertise with regard to the best practices in terms of hydroelectric energy uprates.
