A one-year research programme exploring tidal current marine generation in the Philippines is underway by the Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD), working with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

Backed with €300,000 funding by the Italian Foreign Ministry, the project – based on a prototype of the MC Energy vertical axis Kobold turbine technology – is expected to be sited in the San Bernardino Strait in Samar province.
