The company expects all 76 turbines in Phase 3 to be operational by the end of the third quarter of 2010. Each of the 415ft-tall turbines, from base to tip of blade, has a generating capacity of 2.3MW.
The $1bn Biglow Canyon wind project located near Wasco in Sherman County, Oregon, which was developed by Orion Energy, is being built by PGE, which also owns and operates it.
The phase 3 of the project, which is expected to generate an average of around 150MWh of energy, is claimed to claimed to have created jobs for about 150 employees and contractors during construction.
Jim Piro, president and CEO of PGE, said: “Bringing the first turbines of the final phase of Biglow Canyon Wind Farm online represents a big step in developing more renewable energy resources for our customers and for the growing wind energy development in the region. We expect to have the entire 450MW wind farm online on time and on budget.”
