PG&E will buy 250 MW of power from a proposed solar project Abengoa Solar. That facility, intended to general more than 600 GWh annually, is set to be fully operational by late 2013.
Both the projects will use solar-thermal technology to generate energy. Curved mirrors in the shape of troughs will focus solar energy onto fluid-filled tubes extending the length of each trough. The heated fluid will then be used to create steam for generating electricity.
