“As we get more and more renewable energy in our system, (renewable energy), especially wind and solar, fluctuates a lot depending when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing,” PG&E Spokesman Jonathan Marshall said.

“You need very flexible facilities and natural gas units are among the best for that,” Marshall said.

California mandates to produce 20% of their power from renewable resources by 2010 and then a third by 2020.
