India-based Petronet LNG plans to set up a 1,500MW power plant in Dahej by investing INR60,000 million in the project, marking its entry into power generation.

The power plant will consist of two units with 750MW capacity each and would require 1.5 million metric tonnes (mmt) of natural gas for its operations. Hence, the capacity of the LNG terminal at Dahej has been raised to 12.5mmt, due to be commissioned between June 2008 and December 2008.

The company plans to take up the proposal at its board meeting in October for approval and expects to complete the project by June 2010.
