The five million ton a year LNG terminal at Mundra in the Indian state of Gujarat is expected to be commissioned by 2016.
GSPC holds 50% interest in the Mundra LNG terminal, while the Adani Group holds 25% stake. Petronet has expressed its interest to buy the remaining 25% in the project.
Petronet LNG CEO and managing director A K Balyan said, "We find synergies in taking stake in the planned LNG terminal. The final investment decision would depend on detailed due diligence."
Formed by the Government of India, Petronet was established to import LNG and to set up LNG terminals in the country.
Petronet is a joint venture company with GAIL, ONGC, IOC, and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL).
