The announcement was made at the official open tender ceremony attended by the Algerian Minister of Energy and senior officials from Sonatrach, the state energy company.
The liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant is expected to have a production capacity of 4.3 million tons per year (MTPA) and bids for the contract were evaluated on a cost-per-ton basis, with the Petrofac-IKPT bid of DZD55,000 per ton confirmed as the lowest.
Sonatrach has given Petrofac-IKPT 10 days to obtain the requisite guarantees from the process licensor and selected vendor for the 4.3MTPA net on-ship plant.
