US-based Petrofac has secured a €40m service supply contract from Siemens Energy for two offshore wind converter station platforms in the German North Sea.

Under the terms of the agreement, Petrofac will provide logistics management, platform support services and maintenance services during the commissioning and testing phase of the two High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) offshore platforms.

The two HVDC platforms, HelWin1 and BorWin2, are expected to have an installed capacity of around 576MW and 800MW respectively.

Petrofac noted that these platforms are expected to connect several surrounding wind farms to the mainland, by providing transmission capacity that is enough to power around two million local households.

Commenting on the contract, Petrofac Offshore Projects & Operations Europe senior vice president Walter Thain said that the contract represents the company’s ability to provide its expertise in offshore oil and gas into new markets and new geographies.

Petrofac Offshore Projects & Operations managing director Bill Dunnett said, "This is a strategic goal in the growth and capability of our offshore business and we are delighted to have secured this contract."

In addition, the company will supply offshore crews to operate and maintain platforms during the commissioning period.
