China-based integrated oil company PetroChina has commenced the production of gas at the Mahe field in the Xinjiang province of the country, Reuters has reported.
The gas field lies in the Junggar basin of the gas-rich Xinjiang province. The field is expected to produce around 1.3 million cubic meters of gas per day, Reuters revealed.
The gas will be fed into the national supply through the West-East pipeline, which reportedly has an annual capacity of 17 billion cubic meters of gas.
Tapping Xinjiang’s potential is one of China’s major priorities in its quest for energy supplies. The region reportedly holds a quarter of the nation’s oil and gas onshore reserves, XFN-Asia reported.
