Brazilian energy giant Petrobras has signed a commitment agreement with gas distributor Companhia de Gas de Bahia, which will see Petrobras supply 5.1 million cubic meters of gas to Bahia per day. This is an increase from the current supply of 3.5 million cubic meters per day.

The agreement for the supply of the extra 1.6 million cubic meters per day foresees three natural gas supply modes. This is the first time that Petrobras has signed a deal with a state-owned distributor that includes different contracting systems.

The agreement with Companhia de Gas de Bahia (Bahiagas) has a contract period of five years and will be renewable for an equal period.

The new agreement with Bahiagas has become possible after Petrobras’s Manati field went online in the Camamu basin. This field adds an additional volume of six million cubic meters of natural per day to domestic production, according to Petrobras.
