Brazil-based Petróleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) has made an oil discovery in the Santos Basin pre-salt area informally known as Florim, located in the south Atlantic Ocean, about 300km southeast of São Paulo, Brazil.

The company made the discovery following the drilling of a sixth well, 1-BRSA-1116-RJS, in the Rights Transfer area.

Situated at water depths of 2,009m approximately 206km offshore Rio de Janeiro, the well intersected good quality oil in the carbonate reservoirs just below the salt layer.

The 1-BRSA-1116-RJS well has reached 5,498m depth and will be spud as specified in the Rights Transfer Agreement of about 6,100m.

Upon the completion of drilling program, the company will perform formation test to evaluate the productivity of the reservoirs as per the Rights Transfer Agreement’s Mandatory Exploratory Program.

The commercial viability of the area will be issued once the exploratory phase of the area is completed by September 2014.
