Rabigh shut the units following a power outage, which occurred on 11 September 2013 and power supply to the complex was restored on 15 September.

The company is planning to get the units run at full capacity by the first week of October 2013.

Basic units of the complex, including the ethane cracker unit, was started up with limited capacity with 60 million standard cubic feet per day and will be operated at full capacity of 95 million standard cubic feet per day.

Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical started the Petro Rabigh project with the aim of building oil refining and petrochemical operations by way of upgrading Saudi Aramco’s oil refinery and constructing a new petrochemical complex.

Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical signed a joint venture agreement in August 2005, which allowed for the establishment of Petro Rabigh.
