The final phase of the project is expected to produce $34.9m in energy infrastructure improvements for 103 school facilities, with approximately $3.4m in energy savings per year.
Pepco Energy will provide energy savings through lighting upgrades, building automation controls systems and integrated energy management solutions.
The company’s services also include deployment of energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, steam trap replacements, energy-efficient transformers, domestic hot water systems and a photovoltaic solar project.
The overall project, first awarded in 2007, will improve the school system’s energy savings to about $6.4m each year, and reduce total energy and water usage by nearly 20% and 30% each year, respectively.
The company said the fourth phase will reduce annual emissions by close to 14,800 metric tons, increasing the school system’s total emissions reductions to nearly 20,300 metric tons per year.
