Pennsylvania American Water has started water main replacement projects in Norristown to improve service reliability, prevent water outages and enhanced fire protection.

The projects, with a combined cost of approximately $550,000,will replace aging pipe dating back to the1900s. Startingthisweek,crewswillinstallnearly 1,200 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron main alongHaws AvenuebetweenWest Marshall Street and West Main Street.

In addition, the company will replace approximately 800 feet of water main along Jacoby StreetbetweenSwede Street and DeKalb Street.Thecompany expects to complete the new main installation, testing and disinfection, connecting customers’service lines,and final paving restorationby the end of December.

Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction hours, and motorists are urged to find alternate routes. During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.

These Norristown system upgrades followwater main installationprojects earlier this year along Norma Lane, Hamilton Streetand Tyler Street.
