Upon completion of the overhaul project scheduled in 2018, the refinery’s fuel output is expected to increase from 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) from 180,000 bpd, reports Reuters.
In 2008, the company proposed to construct a new refinery, which was estimated to cost at least $10bn.
However, the company is now moving ahead with the Miguel Hidalgo refinery upgrade project with an investment $4.25bn, which is much less than the 2008 estimation.
The upgraded Miguel Hidalgo refinery will be able to produce 173,000 bpd of gasoline, 104,000 bpd of diesel and 21,000 bpd of jet fuel.
Meanwhile, ICA Fluor industrial engineering-construction joint venture and Empresas ICA have been selected by Pemex Refinación for the construction of the delayed coker unit for the Miguel Hidalgo refinery.
Under the $1.3bn contract, ICA Fluor will provide detailed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the 86,000-barrels-per-day capacity plant.
