The new advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system will serve over 34,000 members across PRECO’s territory that spans ten counties in the US state of Florida.

The electric service provider started an extended pilot of FlexNet in May 2012. It has chosen the licensed spectrum, point-to-multipoint technology to replace an existing power line carrier system with limited capabilities.

PRECO technical services vice president Paul Roberts remarked that FlexNet will provide higher bandwidth and interval data that would allow for future expansion.

"The Sensus system presents us with a reliable, full solution that helps establish the ability to accomplish our future energy initiatives," Roberts said.

Roberts also noted that the FlexNet system architecture fits well with the cooperative’s existing infrastructure.

The AMI project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
