The company has applied for the modification of its original 2006 approval, which proposes the expansion of mine’s footprint by 70ha to allow additional production of three million tons of coal.

This is Wilpinjong’s fifth modification since it received planning approval in February 2006.

Under the expansion plan, the company plans to upgrade its existing coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) to address the increased rate of run-of-mine (ROM) coal beneficiation.

Wilpinjong project development manager Jamie Lees said that the mine is also planning some minor infrastructure upgrades in order to increase the efficiency of the operation.
