In addition, the company also has installed 50 turbines at the 270MW South Kent Wind project in the municipality of Chatham-Kent in southern Ontario, marking the mid-point of overall construction.
Skanska Chile, a subsidiary of Skanska, is carrying out construction activities, while Siemens is providing 50×2.3MW wind turbines for the El Arrayan project, which is claimed to become Chile’s largest wind power project and generate enough energy to power around 200,000 local homes annually when complete.
With commercial operations set for early 2014, El Arrayan will supply its output to Minera Los Pelambres, a Chilean mining company, under a 20-year renewable power sale and energy services agreement.
Spanning across around 15,320 acres of coastal land, El Arrayan, which will connect to the Sistema Interconectado Central’s 220kV transmission system, has entered into a long-term lease agreement with the land-owner in January 2012.
The company has started construction on the South Kent wind project in spring 2013 and will take around one year to complete. South Kent Wind will feature 124 Ontario-made turbines, including towers from Windsor and blades from Tillsonburg.
