PACIFICORP OF PORTLAND, OREGON is seeking approval from state regulators to sell its interest in the Skookumchuck hydroelectric plant near Centralia, Washington.

The utility, a subsidiary of Scottish Power, contends that the 1MW plant, built in 1973, does not produce enough electricity to make it worth the costs of operation and maintenance. The plant includes an earth-filled dam that stores water for the Centralia hydro plant.

PacifiCorp’s share of the US$7.57M sale price of the plant is 47.5%. PacifiCorp is seeking approval to sell the dam, power house, water rights, land, easements and other assets.
