The $11m program funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, previously offered rebates ranging from $100 to $500.
The customers need to buy equipments on or after August 2 to be eligible for the higher rebates. Pennsylvania residents may reserve a rebate online or can make a call to make the reservation. Within 30 days of the reservation, consumers will have to submit the necessary documentation of purchase and installation.
The customers will get rebates checks directly via mail. Rebates will be issued until program funds are depleted.
Replacing heating and water heating equipments, which account for nearly half of a typical home’s total energy bills, is expected to save almost 50% of a home’s heating bill. Nearly 3,900 Pennsylvania residents have availed the rebates to make their homes energy efficient.
John Hanger, secretary of PA DEP, said: “Since the program opened in April, we have received positive feedback from consumers and industry contacts, and observed similar programs in other states.
“After closely analyzing the program’s performance in our economy, we are increasing the dollar value of the rebates, in some cases doubling the amount depending on the type of the equipment and its energy efficiency rating.”
