The consortium is formed by the Chubu Electric Power, Marubeni, Multitech and the Qatar Electricity and Water Company.
The plant will be constructed in the Sur Industrial Estate of Oman and will be fueled with the natural gas supplied by the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
Construction of the plant will be carried out in two phases of 433Mw and 1,564MW respectively.
The first phase is slated to commence operations in 2013 and the second phase by 2014.
Under the terms of a 15-year power purchase agreement, OPWP will buy the entire energy generated from the plant, reports Reuters.
