This was evident in a report presented by CELA to the federal Darlington nuclear newbuild licensing hearings.
The CELA report outlined serious breaches of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) in OPG’s environmental impact statement (EIS) as submitted to the Darlington nuclear newbuild joint review panel (JRP).
The report, prepared for the Peterborough environmental group Safe And Green Energy (SAGE), says that alternatives such as wind, solar and conservation must be considered by OPG as possible replacements for the Darlington project.
According to CELA, OPG has failed to satisfy required points in their submission to the JRP and has therefore not met the requirements of the CEAA.
The Darlington nuclear newbuild site licensing hearings are in their third week in Courtice, Ontario.
