Canada’s Ontario plans to invest just under C$985 million ($820 million) boost the output at its Sir Adam Beck Generating Station near Niagara Falls.
State-owned Ontario Power Generation (OPG) plans to develop a 10.4 km tunnel to supply an additional 500 cubic metres a second of water to the plant that will boost generation by about or 14% or 1,600 GWh a year at the 2 GW plant complex.
OPG awarded a design and construction contract for the tunnel to Austrian construction company Strabag. The project is due to be completed in late 2009.
