Canadian provinces Ontario and Quebec are to spend approximately C$800M (US$702M) on a new 1250MW transmission line to link their power networks.

The scheme, due for completion in 2010, will link the Outaouais region of western Quebec to the Ontario region east of Ottawa, and in the process increase the latter’s access to its neighbour’s hydroelectricity during peak demand.

Quebec will supply C$684M (US$600.6M) and Ontario’s Hydro One is contributing C$124M (US$108.8M) to the project.
