OMZ-Spetsstal, part of the OMZ Group, has won a contract from OAO Power Machines for the delivery of two hydraulic turbine shafts to Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant in Siberia.

The deal is the latest in a series of contract awards from OAO Power Machines Company. Currently OMZ’s metallurgical division is finishing work on two more hydraulic turbine billets. The first one will be shipped before the end of the month.

The hydraulic shaft billet is manufactured from a 360 ton slab. The finished piece is over 9m in length and approximately 3m in diameter.

The Sayano-Shushenskaya plant was damaged during an incident on 17 August 2009, when water flooded the machinery hall; power and auxiliary equipment were damaged and the frameworks of the machinery hall building collapsed. Seventy-five people died as a result of the accident.
