The group’s sales for the second quarter of 2008 were E6.96 billion, up 52%, compared to E4.58 billion for the same quarter of the previous year. Net income for the second quarter of 2008 after minorities increased by 66% to E684 million from E411 million in the second quarter of 2007.

Earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) for the first half of 2008 amounted to E1.75 billion, a 63% increase compared to the same period in 2007. The EBIT contribution of OMV’s Romanian subsidiary Petrom was E512 million. OMV said that EBIT for the second quarter of 2008 was E951 million, up 69%, compared to E562 million for the second quarter of 2007.

Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, OMV’s CEO, said: We are pleased with the consistent progress that OMV continues to make, posting stronger six month results in all segments compared to the same period last year. In particular, the upstream environment continues to be favorable, with Petrom once again contributing significantly to group results.
