Norway-based integrated oil and gas company OMV has secured a drilling permit from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to spud wellbore 7324/8-1 in production license 537.
The drilling program for wellbore 7324/8-1 concerns the drilling of a wildcat well in the license.
OMV, the operator of the license, will spud the well from the Leiv Eriksson drilling facility. The wildcat well 7324/8-1 is the first exploration well to be drilled in PL537 license.
The drilling of the well will commence only when OMV secures all the other permits and consents required by other authorities.
PL537 consists of blocks 7324/7 and 7324/8. The license was awarded in the 20th licensing round in 2009.
OMV is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 25%, whereas other licensees are Idemitsu Petroleum, Petoro and Tullow Oil each with 20%, and Statoil Petroleum with 15% interest.
