EPA launched the SmartWay Transport Partnership in February 2004 to bring together freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and industry associations to pursue a mutual goal of vehicular emissions reductions.
OL&T in its capacity as SmartWay Transport partner has pledged to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
OL&T senior vice president of North American Glenn Riggs said that by joining SmartWay, the company is demonstrating its commitment to environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
“Partnering with the SmartWay program is not only the right thing to do, but these efforts will help to improve the environmental performance of its logistics management programs for customers as we source and manage third-party carriers on their behalf,” Riggs said.
