According to the company, in December 2008, OG&E had filed a notice with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission of the company’s intent to seek a change in its electric rates, anticipating a rate case filing no sooner than January 26, 2009.
The company said that it was preparing rate case documentation for the test year ended September 30, 2008, and anticipates new Oklahoma rates, if approved, being implemented in the August-September 2009 timeframe.
Earlier, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company had received an agreement from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission’s Public Utility Division for the company’s request to take advantage of lower natural gas prices and save the average residential customer more than $3 per month on 2009 electric bills.
Specifically, OG&E asked that the commission staff agree to waive a requirement that the company use October 31 data to set its fuel recovery rate for 2009. Instead, the company is asking to use December 31 data. By using the year-end figures, the company will take advantage of the reduced price for natural gas.
OG&E claims to serve more than 769,000 customers in a service territory spreading 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. OGE Energy also is the parent company of Enogex LLC, a natural gas pipeline business with principal operations in Oklahoma.
