A recent study by TA Cook aims to give managers clear insights into the cost and effectiveness of operations and maintenance activities on offshore wind turbines.

TA Cook research analyst Alex Lawrence said the right approach to maintenance has a considerably stronger influence on the economic viability of an offshore wind farm than it has onshore.

"While wind farms on land are typically technically available to generate electricity more than 95% of the time, this value drops offshore, not uncommonly below 85%," Lawrence said.

"Moreover, the costs for operation and main-tenance can be up to three times more than the originally planned budget."

The TA Cook Research & Studies team conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis of off-shore wind farm operations.

The study included over 50 expert interviews and data from ten offshore wind farms.

It formulates recommendations for action based on the data and presents reliable benchmarks and cost estimates.
