Transocean subsidiary has ordered for the BOP control systems to be used on the existing semi-submersible rigs and modify them as per the new standards issued by the American Petroleum Institute.

The new standard API 53 requires subsea BOPs with a single shear ram to be upgraded or replaced.

Oceaneering International president and chief executive officer M Kevin McEvoy said, "Our BOP control systems are engineered to meet these criteria and to have low maintenance requirements, thereby maximizing rig uptime."

The company will manufacture the BOP control systems at its Oceaneering Intervention Engineering facility in Houston, and deliver the same in the final quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014.

Oceaneering International is an oilfield provider of engineered services and products, especially to the offshore oil and gas industry.
