China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the northwest of the country is to develop nine new wind generation projects by 2020, state media reports.

With an investment of $2.2 billion the region is expected to become the country’s biggest wind generator with an installed capacity of 2.15 GW, up from the current 112.2 MW.

With plans to reach 10% of installed capacity from renewables by 2010 and to about 16% by 2020, China is expected to require some $101.1 billion of investment by 2020.
