As part of its strategy to increase capacity in its core markets, Dutch energy firm Nuon plans to construct a 400MW gas-fired power plant in Frankfurt, Germany.

According to Nuon, increasing its own production capacity ties in with its strategy to expand and strengthen its activities in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium – its core countries. The new plant will also help to underpin Nuon’s position in the German market.

The proposed natural gas-fired power plant will be a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant. Nuon says that it will soon start the application procedure for the necessary licenses and grid connections. The first delivery of electricity from the power plant is forecast for mid-2010.

Nuon is expected to take the definitive investment decision at the beginning of 2008, shortly after which construction will start.
