The first of 36 foundation piles for the Egmond aan Zee van offshore wind farm have been driven, marking the start of offshore construction for the 108 MW development.

The construction materials for the € 200 million project will be brought to IJmuiden harbour, from where they will be shipped out by the Svanen, Ballast Nedam’s floating crane.

Once the foundations have been placed installation of the Vestas wind turbines will begin during the summer with completion scheduled for the autumn. Operations for the farm, a project of the NoordzeeWind joint venture between Shell and Nuon, are due late 2007.
